Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy that accesses the subconscious mind to bring about positive changes in thoughts, feelings and behaviour. Taking the client into a state of deep relaxation with hypnosis allows the conscious and rational (thinking) mind to be bypassed so that positive and lasting change can be made by the subconscious mind.
The mind-body connection is very powerful, and not only mental and emotional, but also some physical problems have a psychological component, which can be addresses with hypnotherapy.
While we use the conscious, reasoning mind to make everyday choices and decisions, it is our much larger subconscious mind which automatically controls our body systems, and where all of our past experiences and memories are stored. Here we may be running programmes which no longer serve our best interests, and hypnosis can be used to access and communicate with the subconscious mind to re-programme it to function for us in a more positive and effective way and, if necessary, to discover the cause of the problem and to help resolve it.
How it works
Once in this deep state of relaxation the conscious, rational mind can be by-passed, allowing the subconscious mind to be accessed. Depending on the issue(s) being addressed, and also the client’s own preferred outcome, at this stage it may be appropriate to incorporate positive suggestion, visualisation, regression, inner child, and/or other techniques so that we can work with the subconscious mind and help to re-programme it in a more positive and beneficial way for the client.
Traditional hypnotherapy techniques are often enough to resolve an issue, but if the cause has been long forgotten, or is more deeply rooted and complex then further work can be done to communicate with the subconscious at a deeper level to get to the root cause and resolve the problem.
Everyone is unique, and it is therefore important to tailor the therapy to suit each individual client.
“When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.”

Will I be asleep?
You will not be asleep, and you will still be aware of everything that is going on around you – one reason why some people wrongly assume afterwards that they have not been hypnotised, and although you could get up and leave at any point, in reality you are likely to be so comfortable and deeply relaxed that you simply wouldn’t want to.
In fact, we all enter a form of this trance state several times a day quite naturally, such as when daydreaming, being engrossed in a good book or TV programme, or when driving on ‘automatic pilot’.
Will I lose control?
Please rest assured that the hypnotic ‘trance’ used in therapy is nothing more than a very pleasant, deeply relaxed state of altered awareness which you allow yourself to enter – you cannot be hypnotised against your will – and you are always in control of how deeply relaxed you wish to feel. Nor can you be made to do or say anything which is against your beliefs/ethics.
What can Hypnotherapy help with?
Some of the things that hypnotherapy can help with are anxiety, stress, lack of confidence, nail biting, exam nerves, weight management, quitting smoking/alcohol, phobias and fears, panic attacks, fear of public speaking, unwanted habits, and much more.
Can I have a free consultation?
As there is no ‘one-size fits all’ method of hypnotherapy I do offer a free half hour initial Consultation without obligation so that after a full discussion of your presenting issue we can then, if appropriate, choose the best form of hypnotherapy for you should you decide to proceed, and the first session can often immediately follow the Consultation if that is suitable for you, or it can be arranged for a later date.
How many sessions?
Everyone is different, and as such everyone’s therapy has to be different, and while there can be no guarantees, in general, and depending on the type of therapy undertaken, it can usually take from 3 to 6 sessions to achieve lasting change. The exception to this is the Stop Smoking Programme which takes just 2 sessions.
How much does it cost?
Hypnotherapy sessions usually take approximately one hour and cost £45 per session.
The Stop Smoking Programme takes two sessions of one and two hours respectively and costs £145.
